I’ve been at this restaurant for a few years. I’ve worked with amazing, hard-working people, and others who are just lazy and irresponsible. Before the pandemic, we only had a handful of people who were considered twats. Now though? 90% of our staff absolutely suck. I have five people in the entire restaurant that I like. Everybody else though is just trash. They are lazy, rude, incompetent, and it seems like their mission is to make more work for everyone.
I get it, the restaurant industry has been hit really hard over the past couple of years. But our boss is so desperate for bodies that he will hire ANYONE, no matter how much they suck. And because he is so desperate for bodies, no one will get fired. Which means more and more shitty people are coming in.
The few of us who care about our work can’t stand it anymore. I am so beat down from this that I am now looking for a break from kitchen work. I don’t know if it will be temporary or permanent but this place, its shitty staff, and its horrible management have killed my love of kitchen work. You know what’s sad? Several people who have been cooking for most of their lives say that this place has just killed their love of the job. Most of them are saying that they never want to cook in a restaurant again. I feel bad for our chef. I know he is trying, but you can see the bitterness on his face when he deals with everybody’s laziness.
Myself and two other cooks. Once I leave, it will only be a matter of time before they quit also. At that point, I expect the chef to quit as well. There is no doubt our restaurant is profitable, but when all of your good staff absolutely hate the place and want to quit? I give it two years, three max, after I leave before it closes down. I feel bad for the few awesome people, but I just can’t take it anymore.
