Secret Shopper

Secret Shopper

We’re all aware of the concept of a secret shopper….. So I work at restaurant in Seattle that has more “standards of selling” than I have ever seen in my years of experience. We get “shopped” once a month and the person ALWAYS makes a reservation (which is rare at our location) and they ALWAYS call in for directions. Last Thursday the host sat a reservation (without telling me), 2 moms and 2 kids (kids are NEVER supposed to accompany shoppers), and I went about my work.
Today the managers sat me down and detailed how bad my score was for not up-selling margaritas to pregnant women and offering massive desserts to three-year-old kids that weren’t even allowed to drink soda. What a note. I’m the only one in the last year to score a 70%. I was written up, lectured, and made to sign a statement indicating my termination if I were to ever do anything like this again. Why is there such an emphasis on the negative at jobs? It’s not like they sat me down and made me sign a sheet indicating that I’ve made over 15% in tips every day for the last four months….. What a crock.
